- Round One: At the end of each month, we will roll out a public poll with the five dankest new memes that are carefully chosen by the research staff. In this round, you may cast your vote on any one of the five preselected choices for a run-off contest in the final round. Alternatively, you can also write in your own nomination for consideration.

We can all breathe a sigh of relief, as all 10 memes that were scattered across the site have been safely returned to the Hall of Memes. Over the last 24 hours, the Know Your Meme community worked tirelessly to collect these classic memes from the last two decades, using nothing but a set of cryptic clues to guide them.

Over the course of the day, a total of 308 Know Your Meme users participated in the hunt. All who found at least one of the missing memes will be given the Meme Catcher badge. The 163 users who found all 10 of the missing memes will be awarded the Meme Gatherer badge.

The first user to find all 10 missing memes was Orange Circle, who managed to solve all the clues within just hours of the announcement. In recognition of this great service, Orange Circle has been awarded the Meme Hunter Champion badge. Our moderator Samekichi Kiseki was in second place and Jellopy came in third.

Pepe the Frog appears to have been the easiest meme to find, with 280 of the participants discovering it in the It Is Wednesday My Dudes entry. Nyan Cat was found the least, with only 184 eagle-eyed users locating its position in Robot Unicorn Attack.

According to Steven Hager, the editor of High Times, and other various sources of cannabis literature, the term "420" was coined in 1971 by a group of students at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, who called themselves the "Waldos" and congregated by the campus statue of Louis Pasteur to smoke weed at 4:20 p.m. Since then, it has become adopted by marijuana smokers across the rest of the country, and of course memers.

The term "420 friendly" is also commonly used among those who smoke and even those who do not to refer to people or places that are acceptable and open to the use of marijuana. The term has also been routinely referenced in various popular movies and television shows. In Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the final score of the football game is displayed as 42-0 and most of the clocks used as props in Pulp Fiction are set to 4:20.

With the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana, many hemp-based and cannabis culture products have taken on the term as part of their brand, including Atlanta's Sweetwater Brewing Co. 420 Pale Ale, 420 Tours (low-cost travel packages to the Netherlands and Jamaica), Highway 420 Radio, as well as video games, record labels and musical acts.

Hello, This is Daenerys is an image macro that refers to a series of memes that feature behind the scenes photographs Game of Thrones actors Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington in costume on their cellphones. Online people began to caption the picture with hypothetical phone calls between their two series characters Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow. The meme generated 28,252 views on Know Your Meme and a Google Avg, Scale of 0.

Number 9 – Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me.

Tell Cersei. I Want Her to Know It Was Me refers to a photo fad in which pictures of animals and people with objects on their heads that make them resemble the Game of Thrones character Olenna Tyrell and are captioned with Tyrell's memorable quote from the series, "Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me." On August 15th, 2017, Twitter user @DanuelFetizanan posted a picture of a white cat with a curtain draped over its head. Because the curtain resembles the headdress Olenna Tyrell's outfits, they captioned the post with Tyrell's famous quote. The post (shown below) received more than 135,000 retweets and 317,000 likes within one month. The meme generated 35,563 views on Know Your Meme and a Google Avg, Scale of 1.

Number 8 – Sandor Clegane Loves Chicken

Sandor Clegane Loves Chicken is a series of image macros and fan art in situations involving or mentioning chicken, featuring the character Sandor Clegane (also known as "The Hound"). The meme originated from the closing scene of the show's season 4 premiere episode, "Two Swords". The episodes closing scene featured the characters Sandor Clegane and Arya Stark asking for chickens in a tavern and eventually getting into a fight. The meme generated 56,477 views on Know Your Meme and a Google Avg, Scale of 1.

Number 7 – My Name is Reek

My Name Is Reek is another memorable quote from the HBO series. The line has been used in image macros as a joke to indicate a person's subservience to another. The origin of this image macro comes from Season 3 of Game of Thrones. The character Theon Greyjoy is taken captive by the antagonist Ramsay Snow, who proceeds to brutally torture Greyjoy and forces him to change his name to Reek. On May 24th, 2014, Imgur user Raxeus uploaded a multi-pane image macro of the scene (shown below). The meme generated 57,225 views on Know Your Meme and a Google Avg, Scale of 3.

The quote started to generate many memes afterward, mainly in the political spectrum.

Number 6 – Atheist Ayra

Atheist Arya is an advice animal image macro series featuring a photograph of the character Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams), accompanied by captions mocking religions and supernatural beliefs. On November 2nd, 2013, Tumblr user halfprincesshalfgoddess posted an image macro featuring a photograph of actress Maisie Williams portraying the character Arya Stark in Game of Thrones with the caption "Did you just use your bible to warn me about hell? / May I quote from ASOIAF to warn you about Joffrey?" (shown below). The meme generated 98,401 views on Know Your Meme and a Google Avg, Scale of 0.

Number 5 – Hold the Door

Hold the Door is a quote uttered by Hodor, a recurring character in the past in Game of Thrones before he sacrificed himself to save Bran Stark from a horde of White Walkers. The mysterious origin as to how the character earned his name "Hodor" had been a subject of intense discussions among the fans and on May 22nd, 2016, the backstory was finally revealed in Season 6, Episode 5 of Game of Thrones titled "The Door." Immediately after the airing of the episode, the phrase "hold the door" and its hashtag form #holdthedoor began trending worldwide on Twitter and elsewhere in the social media. The meme generated 147,756 views on Know Your Meme and a Google Avg, Scale of 2.

Number 4 – Stannis The Mannis

Stannis the Mannis is a nickname given to Stannis Baratheon, a character featured in Game of Thrones. In fan art, photoshopped stills and GIFs from the show, Stannis the Mannis is made to look cool. In August 2011, between the airings of the first and second seasons of Game of Thrones, an image of Stannis from the collectible card game was posted to 4chan's /tv/ board with the filename "Stannis the mannis.jpg". The meme generated 183,780 views on Know Your Meme and has a Google Avg, Scale of 1.

Number 3 – Cleganebowl

Cleganebowl is a fan theory surrounding a hypothetical event in the future plot of George RR Martin’s epic fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. It posits that Sandor Clegane ("The Hound") and his brother, Gregor Clegane ("The Mountain"), would be pitted against each other in Cersei Lannister's trial-by-combat, with the former representing the Faith, one of the two major religions in the Seven Kingdoms, and the latter fighting on behalf of the accused queen. The first documented mention of the Cleganebowl theory online comes from an archived 4chan thread started by an anonymous user on March 20th, 2013. The theory generated 404,622 views on Know Your Meme and has a Google Avg. Scale of 4.

Number 2 – Brace Yourselves. Winter is Coming

Its snowclone template "Brace Yourselves, X is Coming" can be versatilely used to forewarn or proclaim the impending arrival of a highly anticipated event, a product or an internet meme. The phrase "winter is coming" is prominently featured in the book, as the motto of House Stark of Winterfell, a noble clan renowned for its fortified ancient castle. The meme generated 725,629 views on Know Your Meme and a Google Avg. Scale of 10.

Number 1 – You Know Nothing, Jon Snow

“You Know Nothing, Jon Snow”:https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/you-know-nothing-jon-snow is a memorable quote attributed to the Wildling character Ygritte. Due to its repeated appearance throughout the HBO TV series Game of Thrones, the quote has been regarded by some fans as obnoxious and celebrated by others in the form of fan art illustrations and image macros. The quote was originally said by Ygritte in Chapter 15 of A Storm of Swords (page 213, U.S. paperback edition). In the chapter, Ygritte says the line to Jon Snow in anger. This happens because Jon asks why she was crying because of a song about "the last of the giants" when he had just seen hundreds of them. On May 23rd, 2010, the Facebook fan page titled "You Know Nothing, Jon Snow" was launched. The meme generated 759,685 views on Know Your Meme and a Google Avg. Scale of 10.

On April 16th, Twitter user @DimeAlets^[1] (Alex Ruiz) tweeted a screenshot of a DM conversation with actress Lily Collins, in which she replies to his "Ontas?" message with "What does 'ontas' mean?" (shown below). Over the next 72 hours, the tweet received more than 24,600 likes and 3,600 retweets.
