Resident Evil 2 released to high praise from critics who called it the gold standard for survival horror in 2019. While the game is definitely scary, perhaps no character captures the essence of Resident Evil's trademark blend of pants-filling horror and campy comedy than Mr. X. The game's omnipresent villain stalks the player throughout the game and his appearances are genuinely unsettling, but Mr. X is also a giant zombie in a trenchcoat and a hat, which frankly, is a little goofy. The mix of Mr. X's intimidating presence and silly appearance makes him perfect for memes, the Resident Evil franchise's answer to Thanos or Emperor Palpatine.
